1971 Bengladesh, formerly known as East Pakistan, separated from Pakistan with the tacit support of India which fought three wars with Pakistan since 1947.
1977 General Zia ul-Hag siezed power and instituted Islamic law.
1979 USSR took control of Aghanistan and Cold War-rival, USA, supported Pakistan.
1989 Soviet forces pulled out of Aghanistan and Taliban took control. By then Pakistan had sheltered 3 million Afghan refugees and through the years had allowed Jihadist culture to influence its own.
1990 Pakistan succeeded in building nuclear bombs.
