Simon believes that miracles are the supernatural acts of a loving and merciful Heavenly Father who has compassion for His people. Simon believes that all people are God’s children but that His love has not been experienced by all people. However, in these present days more and more people are coming and will come to experience & appreciate the great love that Jesus has for all people.

Simon Peter - The Lost Disciple and You and Me

If you are already a Christian the passage you will soon read will radically alter your Christian faith walk with Jesus. Wherever you are at in your Christian faith and your relationship with Jesus the words below will change your life. You will become hotter for Jesus. You will surrender more of your life to the rule and reign of Jesus. A miracle of belief and faith will happen to every one of us. I am sure of it. If you have a Bible you might like to read the scripture passage in John’s Gospel, Chapter 20 and Verses 1-19 in the version with which you are familiar. I know that it is quite a long Bible reading but it will only take a minute and it will be worthwhile to give what is written there some attention. We will all benefit from reading it.

Jesus is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
After we have read the verses I will tell you what Jesus showed me.
Jesus showed me these things in the passage. Some I had seen before and some I hadn’t. You will probably have the same or a similar experience. There are several important points we can understand from the passage:
• Following the crucifixion of Jesus, Peter had gone back to what he knew before he had met Jesus. Following his three denials of knowing Jesus, or his ‘disowning’ of Jesus and his renunciation of his belief in Jesus as the Son of God, it was as if the three and a half years he had spent with Jesus had never happened.
• The same applied to the other men with Peter. They went back to how they were before. The ‘Jesus experience’ of three and more years was forgotten.
• Peter had denied Jesus three times; now following His resurrection He gives His friend Peter the opportunity to make it right – not once, but three times. He also gives Peter the chance to put Jesus first in his life again. Peter makes Jesus ‘Number One’.
• Jesus acted like the three and a half years He had spent with Peter had never been. Jesus called Peter ‘Simon’ his name before Jesus told him three and more years before, “Follow me”.
• Without Jesus they catch nothing and they are nothing. They can’t even be proper fishermen. This is inevitable because they were not fishermen any more. Jesus had made them into something else. They had all become ‘fishers of men’. They were followers of Jesus and their job was to make other people into disciples of Jesus.
• Jesus calls to His “friends”. We are His friends. Jesus reinstates Peter as a disciple and appoints him as the leader of the disciples and what will become the early church. But He did not just reinstate Peter; He restored him.
• The disciples recognize Jesus. They know His voice and they know Him.
• Jesus tells them to do something and they do it.
• They have been obedient and so they are rewarded.
• The nets are not broken. Jesus told them to do something; they could not be hurt in any way.
• Jesus had his own food. He didn’t need their food.
• He fed them. He looked after them. He had a fire so He could warm and comfort them. He did them good.
• He allowed them to share with Him. He will take and use what we have. He provides them with an opportunity to be kind and generous.
• Jesus tells Peter what is going to happen in the future. He gives him warning about the cost of discipleship. He is open and honest with Peter. He gives him all the information. He is not deceptive. He gives Peter the opportunity to walk away with honour having restored him. Peter is a Christian again. He is ‘saved’ and will go to heaven even if he chooses to go back to fishing now.
• Jesus says to him, “Follow me”. Peter was back where he had started three and a half years ago. He was and he wasn’t.
• He wasn’t because Peter got up and when he had got up he followed Jesus.

Then the Spirit of God showed me this:
‘God loves you as if you were the only person on earth’. I said, “I know that Jesus”. He replied, “No you don’t. They are just nice words on a card to you”. I was hurt. Just like Peter had been hurt in the Bible passage. He felt that he had been rebuked. But Jesus wasn’t telling him off. I said, “Lord, you know that I love you and I know that you love me”. He told me that was right. I was thinking, “Well, what’s the problem?” Then He said, “I love you as if you were the only person on earth and your Heavenly Father does too. He loves you as if you were the only person on earth”. And I was just sitting thinking, “What’s the point of this? Where is this going? What’s His problem?” Just like you are thinking. And then the Spirit of God said to me, “We don’t have a problem; We don’t have problems but you do because you do not yet understand”.

Jesus showed me that He loved Simon Peter as if he was the only person in the world, and that was why on the third day after His crucifixion, when He was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit He did not go straight away up to heaven. Jesus showed me that God the Father had not allowed Him to ascend into heaven on the third day because God the Father loved Simon Peter as if he was the only person on earth.

Jesus waited, and God the Father waited; they waited for about forty days until Jesus ascended into heaven. They both waited until one hundred and fifty-three fish were all in the right place at the right time so Simon Peter and his friends could catch them. It could not have been one hundred and fifty-four fish, otherwise the net would have broken and the fishermen would not have recognized that it was Jesus and there would have been no opportunity for Peter to give his heart to Jesus and been restored.

Jesus showed me that He and Father God – Peter’s Daddy God - had to wait over a month for Peter’s heart to be ready for restoration and salvation. He showed me that during that time the Spirit of God had been brooding over Peter and ministering to his heart. He showed me that He took Peter and then for over three and a half years He blessed Peter but when Peter denied Jesus three times and the rooster crowed, He broke Peter and that when He restored him He had said, “Follow me” He would then take the bread that He broke and use it. Jesus showed me that He loved Simon Peter as if he was the only person on earth.

After this He showed me that He loved me like that. He is showing you that He loves you just like that. The Maker of the Universe loves us just like that; as if you were the only one in the world. After suffering and dying to please His Heavenly Father and then being raised from the dead; Father and Son having been separated by the sins of the world and they were now back in full fellowship with each other, they waited. They had been ‘apart’ for thirty-three or so years; they are just busting to be with each other – and they wait about another forty days - for one small insignificant cowardly dirty little traitor. They wait because he is important to them. For over a month the Spirit of God had been ‘running’ out to meet with Simon Peter. Jesus showed me that in the story of the Prodigal Son before the Father saw His son from afar off; every day He had gone out to scan the horizon, searching intently for him. His Spirit had done exactly the same. Every day His Spirit had gone out ‘running’ to search out the lost son. Jesus showed me that the Father was missing His son; His son was missing from His house. The Father was hurting. The story tells how one day the son came to his senses. Suddenly he was in his right mind and he resolved to some how get back home. How did the change come about? Jesus showed me that the Spirit of God had done this when, like the Hound of Heaven, he had searched for him and He had found him, even when he had fled to a far away foreign country. The Spirit of God was bringing the lost son home. Jesus showed me that it had been just like this for Simon Peter and for me and for my friend Bobby Dylan and it was just like that for you too. The Spirit of God goes where He wills to seek out and save those who were lost and couldn’t find their way home. God the Father loved Simon Peter as if he was the only person on earth. Jesus waited around for him. He waited around for me. He is waiting for you, whether you know him or you don’t know Him. He is waiting for us. His love is patient and He is kind. He is pleased to call you and me His friend.
