LOSS
OF INNOCENCE I have been firmly committed to education on matters related to the intrinsic value of human life for almost two decades now with the view that education would help change people’s minds. Yes, this is of value – particularly to a new generation (hence the value of Christian schools and Sunday School) – but has little or no effect on those committed to a certain course of action. Consider that some 20% of letters sent on behalf of Medicine With Morality to MPs who will be casting a personal conscience vote on ethical issues are simply forwarded “to the appropriate minister” – a total abrogation of personal responsibility. Consider
Emily’s List – a national organisation aimed at getting more
progressive Labor women elected to Parliament – their website makes
this startling admission: “At February 1996 there were 4 women ALP
members of the House of Representatives. Today, there are 152 Labor women
in parliaments of which 113 are Emily’s List members.” And
in this federal election 65 per cent of female Labor candidates are in
Emily’s list and actively pro-abortion. This week the bill on Advance Care Directives [Acts Amendment (Consent to Medical Treatment) Bill 2006] has passed both houses of WA state parliament having been pushed through regardless of problems with this. Similarly the Legislative Assembly has passed the prostitution bill – despite proven failure elsewhere – and Jim McGinty is upset because the upper house will not pass it straight away. Education is important but it is not enough. If we are to change things at the government level we need numbers. We need committed Christians in parliament. We live in a society that is fast-tracking the moral and ethical decline. We have ignored the lessons of history. We have ignored the lessons of Nuremberg and the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights that included the rights of the unborn child. We have not learnt that killing is not a solution for misery. What can
we do? What is our Christian response? Allow me to crystallise…
May God be glorified in our lives and in our nation.
